At ROCKFISH Games, we specialize in creating games that push the boundaries of what’s possible in the space genre. For over a decade, we’ve been providing space game fans with immersive star systems to explore that are filled with exciting spaceship battles and sci-fi adventures.

From exploring derelict space stations and strange new planets to epic battles in deep space our EVERSPACE series is full of excitement and wonder. We’re looking for talented game developers who’d like to join us in expanding our universe through new PC and console adventures, rocket-propelled by Unreal Engine 5.

VFX Artist (f/m/d)

Are you a master of Unreal Engine, Niagara scripting, and creating complex materials? We’re on the lookout for a talented VFX Artist to join our incredible team at ROCKFISH Games. We push the boundaries of gaming and create unforgettable experiences, and we need someone with a passion for visual effects to help us make our games truly spectacular. As part of the VFX team, you’ll be the creative powerhouse behind the stunning visual effects in our upcoming games. From mesmerizing explosions to subtle environmental effects, your expertise will bring our virtual worlds to life. Join us in creating effects that captivate players, enhance storytelling, and elevate our games to new heights!

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement high-quality visual effects that enhance the player’s experience and immersion in the game
  • Collaborate closely with designers, artists, and engineers to ensure the visual effects align with the overall vision of the game
  • Optimize visual effects for performance without sacrificing quality, ensuring smooth gameplay
  • Author and integrate highly optimized game assets
  • Utilize Unreal Engine’s Niagara system and scripting to create complex and dynamic effects
  • Create and refine materials using Unreal Engine to achieve the desired visual fidelity

Requirements

  • Professional experience with Unreal Engine
  • High proficiency in Niagara and Niagara scripting
  • High proficiency in creating complex Unreal materials
  • Ability to author highly optimized game assets
  • Good knowledge of Unreal Blueprints
  • Basic understanding of HLSL/GLSL shader language
  • Proficiency in German

Bonus Skills

  • Passion for gaming

Technical Artist (f/m/d)

Are you a guardian of performance and a master of pipelines? We are looking for a dedicated Technical Artist to bridge the gap between art and engineering at ROCKFISH Games. While our artists create breathtaking worlds, we need your technical expertise to ensure they run smoothly and efficiently.

If you love digging into the profiler, optimizing workflows, and supporting the art team with smart tools, we want to hear from you! As a Technical Artist, you will be the backbone of our content creation pipeline. You won’t just be implementing shaders; you will identify performance bottlenecks, ensure asset validity, and empower our art team to deliver high-fidelity visuals using the latest Unreal Engine 5 features like Nanite and Lumen without compromising framerates.

Responsibilities

  • Profile and optimize game performance (CPU, GPU, Memory) using standard industry tools (e.g., Unreal Insights, RenderDoc)
  • Act as a technical guardian for the art team, ensuring assets meet performance standards and naming conventions
  • Develop and maintain efficient art pipelines and tools (editor utilities, validators) to streamline workflows
  • Investigate and solve complex rendering and stability issues related to new UE5 technologies (Nanite, Lumen)
  • Collaborate closely with the Asset Leads to improve scalability across platforms
  • Support the team in implementing and optimizing complex material shaders

Requirements

  • Professional experience as a Technical Artist in the games industry
  • Deep understanding of Unreal Engine 5, including profiling and debugging tools
  • Experience with memory management and asset validation workflows
  • Proficiency in German
  • Solid understanding of 3D math and rendering pipelines
  • Proficiency in German

Bonus Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Python or Blueprints for tool creation
  • Experience with Blender scripting and pipelines
  • Passion for space or sci-fi games
